We have all suffered as our manager was being criticised from all quarters for his trophy drought.
There does not seem to be a Match of the Day show that does not introduce us as “the side not to have won a trophy since five years”. Whatever the game and whatever the result, this will always get mentioned.
This is despite the fact that apart Chelsea or Man Utd, Liverpool and ourselves, most clubs in the Premier League have not won trophies in decades.
Granted we have not won any cup over the past five years but as I have said many times, Arsene’s record during that time has been pretty solid.
Winning the Premier League is not as straightforward as “expert” Alan Hansen makes out - his beloved Liverpool has not won the league since 20 years. No wonder, Hansen has changed allegiance to Man Utd over the past few years!
Arsene has kept the club in the Top 4 despite the expensive move to a new stadium and now that the debts are being paid off, the club has added experienced players to the squad in the last couple of seasons. Players like Vermaelen, Arshavin, Nasri and Chamakh all came with bags of experience as opposed to the younger signings we were making a few years ago.
The club should give its all to win the Carling Cup this season - and winning it will definitely be the start of a new era at the club.
