Manchester United crashed out of the Carling Cup in an embarrassing defeat to West Ham, 4 - 0. Read Match Review Here

The West Ham manager, as you can imagine was delighted with his teams performance which pushed West Ham into he semi-finals of the cup:
"Today we played fantastic and also scored and we kept a clean sheet. So I'm very happy. I thought we could win, but not by that score.
"It's very special. To perform like this against the best team today in the country and score four goals, what more can I ask?"
Sir Alex Ferguson on the the hand was not so pleased:
"(There were) too many younger players making errors and giving away goals," he added.
"They can't give away goals like that, even though they're young."

West Ham 4 - 0 Man United - United Humiliated in Cup Quarters

November 2010
Victor Obinna - West Ham United v Manchester United - Carling Cup Quarter FinalWest Ham cruised to a 4 - 0 win against a petty excuse of a Manchester United team. That is something you don't hear very often, but the Carling Cup quarter final showed that Sir Alex Ferguson had massively underestimated the London club.

It was a clash between the top and bottom teams in the Premier League, but by this performance, you wouldn't think that United were the team unbeaten this season and sitting proudly at the top. Their defense was an absolute shambles, their midfield created nothing, and the attack had nothing to work with. It was atrocious. West Ham completely outplayed United in the snow, as the visiting players seemed to take a break in their job as footballers, wondering aimlessly around the pitch, watching Avram Grants side control the game around them.

Jonathon Spector of all people - the former Manchester United defender scored two of the goals for the Hammers, both in the first half, and Carlton Cole scored the other two in the second half.

Victor Obinna of West Ham had a great game - a big threat to United throughout; being the source of most of the chances created. It was a player like this that Ferguson's side were missing. Johnny Evans had a bad game, and he knows it. He was turned too easily for Cole's goal, while the defence in general fell asleep for numerous West Ham attacks.

In truth, after the second goal went in, there wasn't really any way back for United. Sir Alex had no one on his bench who could come on and make an impact. No Rooney, no Berbatov, no Nani. the Scot had no options that he knew could change the game.

We all make mistakes, and Sir Alex made one today. Of course, no one could have expected that his team would perform so poorly, but he should have had one or two top players on the bench that he could rely on to create something if it came it. In the end, it did come to it, and Ferguson wasn't prepared.

West Ham have breezed passed the holders of the competition with ease, and humiliated the young United team in the process. Before the game United were unbeaten in all competitions this season. That record is shattered in pieces as the Red Devils travel to Blackpool on the weekend, but it is a huge confidence boost for the struggling Hammers who travel to Sunderland on Sunday on the back of a brilliant 4 - 0 win.

November 2010
Arsenal are not having best of the form at the moment but winning games is more important and now fo the net assigmnet they will host Wigan Athletic side in the Carlin cup match for the quarter Final Tie on Tuesday night 30th November 2010.

Arsenal are coming into this match on the back of good result against Aston Villa, in the league when they hammered them with a 4-2 scoreline on the weekend. Wenger is kind of famus for fielding his young side in the Carling Matches but he might have to change his policy as Arsenal fans are demanding some silverware and since they havnt won anything after 2005 FA Cup win over United, wenger might take this competition seriously.

Arsenal the Latest Club to be Linked to Benzema

November 2010
Karim Benzema Karim Benzema of Real Madrid in action during the UEFA Champions League Group G match between AFC Ajax and Real Madrid at the Ajax Arena on November 23, 2010 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.Karim Benzema has hardly set La Liga on fire since his £35 million 2009 move to Real Madrid. Players like Ronaldo and Higuain have been the main starters up front for the Spanish club, and the Frenchman has naturally been linked to a move away from the Bernabau as his frustration by lack of games has caused him to turn his head in search of new options.

Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson have been well known admirers of Benzema, but lost out in the summer 2009 race for his signature. It was also rumoured that Ferguon was preparing to swap Berbatov with Benzema. Unlikely as it was at the time, it is now even more unlikely after Berbatov almost made history with 5 goals in one game against Blackburn on Saturday.

Tottenham too have recently been linked to him. Since their soar to success in the Champions League, Tottenhams options for players has been broadly widened as they now have the attraction of European football. Yet despite manager Harry Redknapp stating that he liked the player, he said:
"certainly we haven’t made any enquires at all for him".
Aston Villa under their new French manager Gerard Houlier - the manager who has already brought one Frenchman back to the Premier League in Robert Pires is now reportedly interested in bringing in Benzema.

Meanwhile, Houllier's former club Liverpool, in need of a striker to partner Torres have been advised by Jamie Redknapp to snap up the former Lyon striker. His opinion may not mean much, in fact it means next to nothing in terms of Liverpool football club, but he said:
“Liverpool need a striker and they should look no further than Karim Benzema.
“The new Anfield owners have their first challenge: sign him.”
Arsenal are now said to be prepared to smash their record transfer fee to buy Benzema for £25 million. Persistent injuries to important attackers such as Robin Van persie and Theo Walcott among others, as well as Nicklas Bendter's similar situation to Benzema - in his lack of game time, has apparently caused Wenger to feel the need to build on his attacking options.

Benzema is obviously doing something right to have all of these clubs after him. They are not just any old club either, these are some of the top Premier League clubs. But does the fact that a man who cannot get into a top Spanish team, but could get into any one of five top English teams simply exaggerate the fact that the Spanish League's quality is higher than the English? Maybe, but there is no arguing that the Barclays Premier League is still the most exciting in the world.

Winning the Carling Cup will boost the club

November 2010
I am extremely happy to see that Wenger is treating the Carling Cup more seriously this season.

We have a good chance in the Carling Cup this year and I have a feeling that the West Ham - Man Utd might produce a surprise.

West Ham always play well against Man Utd and they will want to keep some momentum after winning against Wigan on Saturday. Avram Grant is under serious pressure so every game is vital if he wants to save his job.

As for us, I think that the Carling Cup would bring renewed optimism around the club.

It will give the belief that this manager can win trophies again at this club.

Most of this squad has not won a trophy at this club or in England and winning a first trophy could give them the hunger and belief for years to come.

The League Cup was certainly the starting point for George Graham in his trophy-laden years at the club ( Graham won six trophies in only nine years).

In 2006, Alex Ferguson was also facing some pressure after not winning the league for 3 years.

He said it himself that winning the Carling Cup in 2006 gave him renewed belief and they went on to win the League three consecutive times after that.

I am expecting that a strong Arsenal side would get past Wigan tomorrow and everything is possible if we reach the semi-finals.

Shearer lavishes praise on Chamakh

November 2010
I gave Match of the Day another chance yesterday when I realised that Alan Hansen was not on the panel.

It was refreshing to see Alan Shearer commenting on our win - Hansen would have ridiculed the win had he been on there.

In any case, it was interesting to see Shearer’s glowing assessment on our striker Marouane Chamakh.

Shearer thought that Chamakh has a bit of everything and gave Arsenal another dimension in the box.

Something we have lacked for many years and which is vital in the Premier League.

Alan Shearer knows what he is talking about - he is the Premiership record goal scorer and was known to be able to mix it with other centre-halves when needed.

I think the Moroccan could turn out to be one of the finest piece of business done by Wenger.

He was free and did not need to be polished like some the other Wenger signings.

Fabregas, Vieira and Henry are rightly pointed out as the top signings during the Wenger era. However, they all needed to be worked on for a couple of seasons before they reached world-class levels.

Chamakh is more like a Sol Campbell signing. Just like Sol brought much needed stability to an ageing defence, Chamakh gives us presence in the box, can deal with the aggressive demands of the Premiership and scores tons of goals too.

November 2010
In the next match of the premier league season Spurs will be hosting Liverpool at White hart Lane forthe English Premier elague match on Sunday evening 28th Noember 2010. Liverpool are trailing behind tottenham by just three points as they have 19 while spurs are sixth in the table with 22 and both teams consider this game as crucial for their own little purposes.

Liverpool will have to start winning most of the games in the league in order to come in a postion to qualify for the champions League and they will have to finish 4th in the table to do that where competition is pretty high for the 4th spot ans the top three are running way with the title race and for the 4th postion there are other big candidates as well with the likes of City, Spurs and liverool fighting it out.

November 2010
Chelsea will be hoping to get back to top of the table as they are slipped on 3rd place after yesterday when United and Arsenal got stunning wins home and away respectively. They will be hoping to get back to winning ways after poor couple of weeks which saw them lose the lead at the top of the table. Now they will be taking on Newcalte United playing away from home at St james Park.

Who wil forget the Carling Cup tie where Newcastle United defeated chelsea earlier in the season by 4-3 at Stamford Bridge, It was a game which left a real pressure over chelsea and straight after that game they started struggling home ansd away. Right now there major problem is the top strikers form as Drogba an Anelka cant find a goal from anywhere.

Fat Sam does his mate Fergie another favour

November 2010
They say that a friend in need is a friend indeed.

One of the certainties of any season for me is how Big Fat Sam’s teams play against Arsenal and how they perform against Man Utd.

Against Arsenal, Fat Sam’s teams will be fired-up and aggressive. Any win against either Bolton or Blackburn will have to be hard-earned.

Against his pal Fergie, Fat Sam’s teams are usually weak and timid.

Today’s 7-1 defeat was just a case in point. Fat Sam has lost 11 times in 16 games against his good pal Fergie.

Man Utd has now stormed back to the top of the league and they are a team that rely highly on momentum so expect them to hit top gear from now.

And the “Next Real or Inter Manager” is always here to provide a helping hand when needed.

Aston Villa- Arsenal Player Ratings

November 2010
Fabianski 5.5 He cannot be faulted for the goals but I think he is beginning to look shaky again. Conceding 7 goals in 3 games is hardly a reference for a goal keeper, even though there were no obvious mistakes. But it was his inability to command the box at corners and his poor distribution that made me unhappy today.

Sagna 6.5 Great at going forward and participating in the build up, especially in the first half. Defended well in the second half.

Koscielny 7 Excellent as for me he was playing as the only centre-back in a 3-man defence. Had to carry Squillaci for 90 minutes and did ever so well, especially in the last 10 minutes when the game was still 3-2.

Squillaci 2 A virtual passenger in the whole game. Just stood there so many times while Villa sent crosses in our box. I watched in disbelief as Villa players beat him as if he was not there.Looks vulnerable and totally struggles with the pace of the English game, and reminds me too much of a certain Pascal Cygan in his play. Was lucky that Koscielny was there to bail him out throughout the game. Time to drop him for Djourou and think of a replacement in January.

Clichy 7 A much-improved performance where he was focused for the whole game, breaking down attacks down his flank and providing an attacking outlet when needed.

Song 6.5 An important component of our team as he provides the steel in a silky side. Showed his strength in the first half when he out-muscled Downing and broke up a number of their moves. We struggle when he does not play.

Wilshere 7 Took time to get into the game again but came out much more committed in the second half. Seems to get better when others tire and that says a lot about his stamina. Scored the goal that killed the game off.

Rosicky 7 A battling display by the stand-in captain. I have some sympathy for him as he is not the same brilliant player he was before his injury. But today he demonstrated a first-class attitude and provided an excellent pass for Chamakh’s goal.

Arshavin 9 When he is at his best, he is simply a world-class player. Seems to have benefitted from his mid-week break and today he was on fire. Got a great goal and never stopped running. Seems to be developing an understanding with Chamakh. Made a superb solo run in the second half and I am glad that he has ended his Premiership goal drought.

Nasri 7.5 Excellent goal and at the heart of things for most of the game. I still think that he is playing with some physical discomfort but his touches and skills were brilliant.

Chamakh 9 Brilliant display and I think Bendtner should look up to him if he wants to improve his game. Gave Collins and Dunne a nightmare with his action-packed performance and is the real deal up front. Times his runs perfectly and Arshavin kept up on finding him throughout the game. Capped his afternoon with a well-taken goal and an assist for Wilshere’s goal.

November 2010

Scoring drought? Not any more. Berbatov scored 5 goals for Manchester United in a game that the now League leaders cruised to a 7 - 1 win. Luis Nani and Ji Sung Park scored the two other goals, but Berbatov claimed the match ball. The Bulgarian may even have been disappointed. Disappointed that he didn't grab six - a double hat-trick and put his name in the record books for the first double hat-trick in the Premier League.
"It was a fantastic achievement," said Ferguson.
"He could have scored six too because Paul Robinson made a fantastic save near the end.
"When strikers are not scoring they don't think they are doing their job right. That has always been the case. Today it came back."

Berbatov Grabs 5 in 36 Goal-Packed Premier League Saturday

November 2010
Dimitar Berbatov Dimitar Berbatov (L) of Manchester United is congratulated by team mate Michael Carrick after scoring the opening goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford on November 27, 2010 in Manchester, England.A record breaking Premier League Saturday - wonder goals were scored, penalties were saved, red cards were brandished and 36 goals rippled the net. It was quite unbelievable.

The early kick off saw Arsenal defeat Aston Villa and the golden oldie and returning Arsenal legend Robert Pires by four goals to two. Arshavin and Nasri lifted Arsenal to a two goal lead in the first half, while Ciaran Clark scored to revive some hope before Marouane Chamakh scored 4 minutes later. Clark then scored again to raise Villa hopes again, but Jack Wilshere finished the game in the 90th minute to temporarily put Arsenal top.
They were probably hoping Blackburn would give United a good fight. If they were, they would havebeen bitterly disappointed. http://bit.ly/hxBxSi (Goals)

Manchester United grabbed 7 goals in a 7 - 1 win against Blackburn in which Dimitar Berbatov - the guy who hadn't scored since his hat-trick against Liverpool, and was said to be preparing to be sold by United in the summer - scored 5 goals. Luis Nani and Ji Sung Park scored the others, but Berbatov grabbed the match ball in delight (or his composed version of it) at the end of the game in a match that shoots his goal tally up to 11 for the season and fires Manchester United up to the top of the Premier League with a dramatically increased goal difference. (Goals) http://bit.ly/hxBxSi

Carlos Tevez announced once again that he was unhappy playing football, but Manchester City hoped to put this aside and roll over Stoke City at the Brittania. They almost won too, as Micah Richards scored from 12 yards out inthe 81st minute. But Matthew Etherington slotted home after a nice move in the ninetirth minute to crush City's hopes and squeeze a point from the game.

The other results today included a win from West Ham against relegation rivals Wigan for a precious three points, a Bolton comeback from two goals down against Blackpool, a Wolves - Sunderland thriller where Ebanks-Blake scored in the 89th minute to take the three points, and a Fulham - Birmingham draw. 2 red cards and 5 goals in the match between Everton and West Brom saw the Toffees lose their cool, and lose Arteta in a 58 minute stamp on Jara.

The full list of results are as follows:

Aston Villa 2 - 4 Arsenal

Bolton 2 - 2 Blackpool

Manchester United 7 - 1 Blackburn

Everton 1 - 4 West Brom

Fulham 1 - 1 Birmingham

Stoke 1 - 1 Manchester City

West Ham 3 - 1 Wigan

Wolves 3 - 2 Sunderland

in one of the most devastating performence to date by Dimitar Berbatove who punished Blackburn Rovers and scored 5 past them. He started out all with Contraversial goal as Paul Robinson was injured in te build up play and struggled to get back to his goal and defend it properly.

than Pascal Chimbonda gifts the grateful Berbatov with an easy goal. His attempted pass back was woefully short and Berbatov emphatically drove the ball past Robinson.

Arsenal are coming into this match with a great chance of going top of the table as United and Chelsea will play their games after this match but their recent performences have been dodgy to say the least as they lost against Sporting Braga in the midweek action of the Champions LEague but Wenger will be hoping to have his strongest eleven for this very crucial match in Arsenal's season.

allas boasts that Spurs can win everything

November 2010
I do not think I have ever hated an Arsenal player more than Gallas.

And I do not mean it is because he has joined Spurs - I just could not warm up to him while he was with us.

I could see that he was a good defender but he always looked like a trouble-maker to me.

He left Chelsea amid accusations that he said he would score an own-goal against them if he stayed.

His petulant one-man strike after the Birmingham game was for me the single reason why we fail to lift the Premier League in 2008. We had a terrific team with the Fabregas, Hleb and Flamini axis performing brilliantly.

He also blasted his colleagues last year which saw him rightly stripped off the captaincy.

I always thought that Gallas was Wenger’s biggest mistake in the transfer market.

A good player he might have been but he has always been a disruptive influence wherever he has been. Good luck to Spurs dealing with him if things ever go pear-shaped.

Telegraph continues to demand Arsene's exit

November 2010
The Telegraph has run another of their traditional hostile-Arsenal comment today.

Their journalist Matthew Norman claims that Arsene has to “realise it is time to go”.

I mean who the hell are they to decide what Arsenal should do.

Most Arsenal fans back Arsene and that it is not just because of we are living in the past as the Telegraph claims.

We back him because we know that despite the trophy-less seasons, we are still always in the Top 4 which means qualification in the Champions League every year. Any new manager will need to better that for us to even consider a change.

The “no-trophy” brigade seems to forget that it is not that easy to win the Premier League or the Champions League.

Chelsea has not won the Champions League despite spending hundreds of millions over the past few years and Liverpool has not won the league for over 20 years. Since 13 years, only three teams have won the league and we are one of them.

We do not have a right to win trophies every year. But I think what trouble stirrers like the Telegraph fail to realise is that Arsene is doing quite well, even if you look at his record only from 2005.

He is firmly keeping the club in the Top 4 despite having to spend carefully during the move to a world-class stadium.

Since 2005, there have been two good title challenges in 2008 and 2010, a Champions league final in 2006, a Carling Cup final in 2007 and a number of quarter-finals in the Champions League.

All this by playing a brand of breathtaking football. It is not difficult to understand why Arsenal fans are so loyal to Wenger.

But then again the Telegraph cannot be counted on for their objectivity, especially after they called Arsenal the “dirtiest team in the league” a few weeks ago.

Jagielka bid confirms that Squillaci was never the first choice

November 2010
Prior to the Everton game, David Moyes confirmed that we had made a bid for their centre-back Phil Jagielka.

We made an £8m according to Moyes, something which Everton found "ridiculous".

They valued Jagielka more in the region of £20m , a price which scared Arsene Wenger away.

While it is a fact that English players do cost more than their European counterparts, sometimes it is a reality that English clubs have to live with. It does not make it right but it is the way it is.

I think Everton were prepared to negotiate with Arsenal and that Jagielka was very keen on the move (Moyes said that they discussed it at length) but Wenger typically went for a much cheaper alternative in Squillaci.

While most people are criticising Koscielny, I think Squillaci has actually been the bigger disappointment out of the two.

Koscielny may have been sent off a couple of times (both harsh red cards) but I think he is an intelligent defender who will improve.

He is a lot younger as well.

I was just expecting so much more from Squillaci.

I saw Squillaci a few years ago with France and Sevilla and I thought he was very good, but it seems that he was constantly injured last season.

He has struggled a lot for us and I hope that Vermaelen recovers soon. But Wenger will still need to decide whether to go for Jagielka again in January

Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey Joins Nottingham Forest

November 2010
Aaron Ramsey Aaron Ramsey (L) of Arsenal holds off Lorik Cana of Sunderland during the Barclays Premier League match between Arsenal and Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium on February 20, 2010 in London, England.
Pic: Ramsey is on a one month loan deal
The young Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has joined Nottingham Forest on a loan deal lasting until the 3rd January 2011.

It is hoped that the more games the 19 year old gets, the more match fit he will become as he admitted that he is a bit behind in his fitness levels compared to his team mates after his first competitive match for Arsenal since he broke his leg 9 months ago.

"I'm as fit as all the rest of the lads but [playing in a competitive game] proved I am a bit behind"
An Arsenal statement said:
"Everyone at Arsenal Football Club wishes Aaron the best of luck during his time with Nottingham Forest and we all look forward to seeing him once again in an Arsenal shirt in the New Year."
The Welshman made 29 appearances in all competitions last season for Arsenal before his injury, scoring four times. Ramsey had planned on staying at Arsenal and fighting for his place in the first team, but if anyone knows how to nurture a young player it is Wenger, and sending him on loan will increase his confidence with the ball on the pitch as well as improving his fitness.

A broken leg doesn't just damage a player physically; there are obviously mental barriers to get through and it takes a strong minded character to get through them. Time will tell whether Ramsey will ever be as good a player as was hoped before his injury, but there is no doubt that he has the ability that got him noticed at Cardiff.

Rangers 0 - 1 Man United: Rooney Scores Winner as United Stay Top

November 2010
Wayne Rooney David Weir of Rangers tackles Wayne Rooney of Manchester United during the UEFA Champions League Group C match between Rangers and Manchester United on on November 24, 2010 in Glasgow, Scotland. As Wayne Rooney ran with clenched fists screaming and moving his head wildly towards the Manchester United fans, you could be forgiven for thinking that he was about to knock every one of the boo boys out in a massive punch up. He had actually just scored the winner for Manchester United against Rangers in the Champions League, and he was positively animated, overjoyed, and most probably relieved that he had scored a goal at last.

(WATCH THE VIDEO OF THE GOAL BELOW)

For the most part, Rooney looked so much better than previous performances this season. He had a couple of tough chances that the Rooney of last season may have taken, but after the summer he had, he is still climbing back up the ladder to get to that prolific stage once again.

Rangers didn't look at all like a team that wanted to win the game. They needed to win, but their extremely negative tactics of about five defenders and one striker restricted them to only around 5 minutes of the whole match outside of their own half. They were dominated by a controlling but wasteful Manchester United, who admittedly didn't create a massive amount of chances.

Rangers brought on James Beattie - another striker - just after Rooney had scored, and with little chance of getting anything from the game just whithered away, accepting their Europa League spot.
Valencia had beaten Bursaspor 6 - 1 and so Rangers needed to win. Nobody must have told them that though.

Manchester United ended up being too much for the Scottish team, and stayed at the top of their Champions League table with a point against their next opponents and closest rivals Valencia, guaranteeing them top spot.

Hopefully for Manchester United and Wayne Rooney, the striker can now get back on track in the Premier League with goals galore. It might take a little while longer for him to get back into top form, but he will get there - and if his estatic celebration was anything to go by, his commitment to United is not in any doubt.
