Arsenal is a role model

UEFA says that Arsenal is a role model for European clubs to follow as part of their financial guidelines starting from next season.

According to UEFA,  clubs not following our approach could risk a ban from next season. They have praised our management - and this is definitely credit to Arsene Wenger’s way of managing this club.

He is a manager who treats the club’s money as his own and aims to never overspend in any transfer window.

While this can sometimes be frustrating for fans who always want big-name signings, Wenger’s approach is perfect for long-term financial sustainability.

Clubs like Leeds or Portsmouth lived the dream but are stuck in hell in the Championship - Leeds even had a trip to League One.

Clubs like Chelsea, Spurs and City have been over-spending for years.

Chelsea are struggling now that Abrahamovic has decided that he wants his club’s wages bill to be more stable. Getting rid of Carvalho, Ballack, Deco and Cole was a measure to cut wages but the squad has suffered as a result.

As for Tottenham, they have been spending a lot of money over the last few years. I know for a fact that they will struggle financially if they do not manage to qualify for next season’s Champions League. For all his qualities, it is rarely mentioned that it was Redknapp’s dodgy spending that led to Portsmouth’s downfall.

Arsenal does not plan spending in accordance with Champions League qualification. Despite being in the competition every year since 14 years, the club budgets as if there will be no Champions League revenue.

Critics would say that Wenger has not won any trophies in the past five years but are you aware that Spurs have spent more than us for the last decade but have only 1 League Cup to show for their troubles? As for City, their last trophy (a League Cup) was won 35 years ago.

Arsenal fans need to realise how lucky we are to have such a genius as Wenger on board. Let us see how clubs like City, Spurs or Chelsea fare next season when they will be forced by UEFA to balance the books.
