Is the British media jealous of Fabregas?
A real jewel in the Premiership, Fabregas is an absolute joy to watch and a master play-maker.
Arsenal’s captain is a sensational player and we are extremely lucky to have him.
In fact, the Premiership brand is lucky to have a young World Cup Winner on its ranks.
He was fairly appreciated by the media for the past five years.
However, something changed this year. The media has began to constantly have a pop at Fabregas. Every now and then, there is an accusation by “journalists” in this country.
I watched a game on Sky Sports recently and the commentator (cant remember who he was) was absolutely disgusting about Fabregas. From start to finish, he would moan about Fabregas talking to the ref even though recent Premiership guidelines establish that captains are perfectly entitled to communicate with the ref.
Terry, Ferdinand and Gerrard do it on a regular basis and they get called leaders. Fabregas does it and he gets called a moaner.
Today the whole UK media made something out of nothing - and it was not just the cheap tabloids. Ten Huddersfield players wanted Fabregas’ shirt but only two got it. General Headline? “Huddersfield furious with Fabregas’ poor behaviour”.
The British football media in large sections are ignorant bigots. They are doing with Fabregas what they did it with another young successful “foreigner” a few years ago . A young man named Vieira also suffered the media’s inferiority complex when he won the World Cup with France in 1998.
But the culture about blaming “foreigners” is rife in the media in this country.
Hansen , the BBC star pundit , offended the whole of Europe (I received many emails from abroad about this) when he talked about “continentals and their diving ways”. Shocking that Hansen, the son of Danish immigrants, was not even questioned about this. I am having some trouble with this as it seems that hating foreigners does not make you racist anymore.
I am afraid that this pathetic media drivel could make Fabregas think about returning Spain soon. It will be a huge tragedy but the ignorant bigots would have won their day.
