One of the certainties of every international week is young Bendtner´s dad/super agent giving sound bites to the media about how things are not good for his son at Arsenal.
This week Bendtner Sr. said “I am very, very far from being satisfied with Nicklas’ situation at Arsenal, I will not say more right now, because this should not go through the press. If more needs to be done, then I will make direct contact with the club and Wenger himself.”
It is hilarious how he says that this should not go to the press but gives an interview just in case anyone is interested.
What has been clear to me is that Bendtner´s dad has been working on a move for a long time for his son - but Nicklas seems more interested on fighting for his place at the club. This can be a problem when agents put pressure on young players and they can find it harder to resist when the agent is a member of their family.
We saw it with Anelka´s brothers. Take his brothers away from him and he did not seem to have done badly for himself.
I like Bendtner and I think he gets far too much stick for a player who does not start that many games for us.
Remember he has only started three league games for us all season. He has a very decent 9 goals in 14 starts for us (and 13 substitutes appearances for us this season). In the last four years, he has just 79 starts but has 45 goals - not bad at all.
His main problem is that he does not fit in our style of play - our football is mainly on the floor, pass and quick movement while Bendtner is more of an old-fashioned striker who likes crosses to be sent to him in the box.
I always think its a shame to see him on the wings - he has not got the pace or the dribbling ability to play there.
Having said that, his dad´s comments are certainly unnecessary and the timing is all wrong.
We need everybody to be focussed right now and not more negativity in the media.
I understand you want the best for your son but there is no need to go public over it. And certainly not when we are in a title run-in.
