The Telegraph and many other papers cannot stop laughing at Arsenal for trying to open talks with Jens Lehmann. It is a crazy decision and further evidence that Arsene has lost the plot they say.
I know that the British media ( and the two Tits , talksport and the Telegraph in particular) are currently busy celebrating the Anti -Wenger week but Lehmann is only an emergency cover as we have not one, not two but THREE keepers injured.
That is right, apàrt from Fabianksi and Szceszny, Mannonne also injured himself at Hull. The Italian has impressed on loan and would have been recalled had he been available.
As such we are left with only Almunia and the inexperienced James Shea, and every club needs three keepers. Which is where Lehmann comes in - a short-term cover in case Almunia gets injured.
Provided he has kept himself fit, the German could help if need be but it does not mean that he will play. At 41, he is old but van der Sar is not doing too badly at 40 is he?
And in any case, it would have made zero difference if we signed Given or Hart or even bloody Buffon in the transfer window as if we have three keepers injured, we would be forced to get an emergency deal anyway.
I do not know who else is out there but if anyone is available on emergency, it means they are either without a club or surplus to requirements at their own club and this is what we would get right now.
So Lehmann looks likely but remember it is ONLY to cover for Almunia.
