It is not easy to take positives after a week-end which sees us drop five points behind the leaders. Almunia´s calamity moment has really dented our title hopes but the lads in front also need to take some blame for letting WBA race into a two-goal lead.
There were some positives to take from this week-end though:
The fighting spirit:
Arshavin´s goal lifted the side and we played our best football in a fortnight after reducing the score to 2-1. After the equaliser, we pressed hard for a winner and were perhaps unlucky not to get it. We need to play like this in every game until the end of the season – not just for half an hour but for the full ninety minutes.
Ramsey´s return
Great to see the boy make his first Arsenal start after being shawcrossed. At fault for the goal but looked confident on the ball otherwise. Should have equalised in the first half and what a story it would have been. We know if he stays fit he will be an outstanding player and let us hope he gets a few more games until the end of the season.
Fabregas and Song to return soon
Our central midfield looked really light-weight whenever Denilson is on the pitch. We miss our captain but I have to say that Song´s absence is costing us more. He has improved this season and is our engine in midfield. Get these two back and we look a different team altogether.
Jack Wilshere
He enhances his reputation with every game. He is really looking like our leader on the pitch and was driving the team on as we pressed for a winner. He is only 19 and is only in his first full season but what a player we have in our hands. Capello has already said that he is a first-team player for England .
Can Lehmann do a job for us?
We do not know how fit he is and he has not played a competitive game since retiring at the end of last season. But if Wenger was willing to take him on, he must have been convinced about his fitness. And if he is fit, he is an outstanding keeper. He is a winner and is very confident man so let us hope he can bring that winning mentality to the others.
Spurs to drop out of Top Five?
While we have our own problems to sort out, let us not forget that our Tiny Neighbours are struggling to keep pace with the Top 4 this season. Dirty Harry boasted all season that they can win the league this season but Chelsea´s win over City mean that they are four points behind City. To make matters worse, a dangerous Liverpool is now breathing down their necks for the fifth spot. How can that not bring a smile to your face?! Come on !
