This week we will see two of the hottest properties in British football come head to head in an international qualifier when Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey represent England and Wales respectively.
The media rarely reports that Arsene Wenger is building an excellent nucleus of young British talent at the club.
Gibbs, Wilshere, Ramsey, Walcott, Lansbury, Henderson and Bartley could all be part of a British core at the Emirates within the next couple of years.
Wilshere in particular has taken his chance with both hands this season. Everybody knew he was extremely talented but the big question was whether he would make it with us.
He is now regularly playing like our leader in midfield and he is going through the same development that Fabregas went through at the same age. With Fabregas and Song injured, Wilshere has had to take more responsibility. The same thing happened with Fabregas when both Vieira and Edu left the club.
Capello has already said that he sees Wilshere as an automatic starter for England and I would not be surprised to see him become a future Arsenal captain if Fabregas ever leaves.
He will face Welshman Aaron Ramsey who would have been also first-choice in our midfield had his career not been brutally halted by “honest” tabloid heroes Shawcross and Pulis.
Ramsey is a midfielder in the Gerrard mould and he showed his class prior to his injury last season. Should he stay fit, Arsenal will reap the benefits of his development next season.
Against West Brom , Ramsey and Wilshere started together for the first time in their career. Ramsey was predictably raw but he showed some good touches.
Amidst all the doom, Arsenal fans have plenty to look forward to as these two will soon form a formidable midfield partnership at the club.
