Capello sees him as the new Claude Makelele, I see him more as the new Paul Scholes. Whatever the comparisons, Jack Wilshere's meteoric rise to the top is set to be confirmed tomorrow when he starts for England against Denmark.
Capello sees him as the finest player of this new generation. The Italian is one of the most successful coaches ever. He has won eight league titles, one Champions League and many other trophies. He knows a great player when he sees one.
Wilshere has great vision and superb movement. He is also very tenacious and he is not afraid to dish it out but also gets up very quickly when he is on the recieving end of meaty challenges.
I was a bit skeptical when Liam Brady said five years ago that Jack Wilshere will be a future star for Arsenal soon. We have heard of many young players tipped for big things but not able to fulfill their potential.
He did very well on loan at Bolton and they fought tooth and nail to keep him this season.
But Wenger knew he was ready for first team football. Arsene deserves great credit for developing him and for starting him in so many games.
In a way, his development is faster than Fabregas. When Wenger sold Vieira in 2005, he asked a very raw Fabregas to step up to the grade.
We could all see how gifted he was. But he had to learn the hard way. When Vieira left, opponents saw it as an opportunity to bully Arsenal midfielders. Gilberto was there but his role as the Invisible Wall meant that Cesc was often getting a battering in midfield.
We suffered while he was learning. We so nearly dropped out of the Top 4 in 2006 but luckily Spurs pooped themselves in the last game.
The point is that Wilshere has in Song and Fabregas two world class players to support him. I am certain that he will add goals to his game next season.
Whisper it quietly (and I am sure figures of hate like Durham wont like it one bit ) but in Jack Wilshere, Arsenal have a player who will be the face of English football for the next decade.
