Confirmation that Djourou will be out for the rest of the season has hurt Arsenal fans as much as the defeat of yesterday.
Squillaci on paper should prove a more than able deputy. With his huge experience as an international defender and part of the trophy-laden Lyon side , he was always good when he played for Seville (when I watched him anyway).
However, he has not quite met the expectations when called upon and we really need him to be at his best if we are to stand a chance of winning the league.
Kyle Bartley is currently on loan with Scottish giants Rangers and he has put in man-of-the match displays in their last two games. He has already played against Celtic and we know how fiesty these games can be.
He also has 40 appearances for Sheff United, where he put in many dominant displays.
At 6ft5, he fought well with the bully-boys of the Championship including standing up to Hull´s captain Ian Ashbee.
Sounds like the kind of bull-dog mentality we are missing right now.
We need a good cover on the bench anyway in case we get another injury to either Squillaci himself or Koscielny, and Miquel does not have as much experience as Bartley.
