Arsene Wenger has been the subject of intense media pressure over the past few years. Some "experts" love to question his position at the club and the best opportunity for them is when we have a negative result.
The Telegraph who has been anti-Arsenal for years now has led the way again this week with a number of tirades against Wenger. Ignorant bigots at talkSport have castigated Arsene for nearly a decade now - I remember talkSport criticising Arsene even during the Invincibles season.
As for the Telegraph, can you really have any time for a paper who labelled us the "dirtiest team in the Premier League" ? But repeating the same things over and over again can in the end falsify reality.
The media’s assault and bullying of one of best managers of this decade has been nothing but a trauma for Arsenal fans.
We know how consistent Arsenal have been under Arsene Wenger. He has won 3 Premier Leagues and 4 FA Cups during his first 8 years at the club.
The last 6 years were more difficult as the move to a new stadium meant that the budget for new players was smaller. Okay, the Board have always said that the money is there but right at this crucial period of our history, you needed a manager like Arsene, who could keep the club competitive without spending massively.
We could have ended like another Leeds , a club which was in the semi-finals of the Champions League only as recently as 2001. Living the dream, they broke the bank for several players on the assumption that the club will get European revenue every year. Missing narrowly on the 4th place in 2001, they self-destroyed, went into financial oblivion and even had a spell in League One for their troubles.
Can you imagine if we had Redknapp and the Board had told him to spend how much he wants? He would have bankrupted the club make no mistake about that, just as he did with West Ham, Southampton and Portsmouth .
Despite spending very little (net spend) over the past few years, Wenger still leads the club to Top 4 finishes every year and missed the league by just FOUR points in 2008.This season we are joint-top of the league should we win our game in hand.
He improves players every season and has a core of young players who are under the age of 24. This team will get better next season but the league is still in our hands this season with just nine games remaining.
Arsenal fans should not listen to external pressure trying to get us on the back of our manager and realise that Wenger is doing a fantastic job for us. And while we would all love a trophy or two, we need to remember that it could have been a lot worse.
