Rooney Contract - Manchester United are reportedly yet to sort out a new contract with striker Wayne Rooney, and are starting to worry with his contract due to expire in the summer of 2012.
The forward is thought to have given his word to manager Sir Alex Ferguson that he will put pen to paper on a deal worth £140,000-a-week. But with only 18 months left on his current deal, coupled with the potential delay caused by the recent scandal involving the 24-year-old, Old Trafford bosses are now believed to be concerned.
Claims The Sun about it is the Red Devils who have failed to move ahead with a deal for the hitman, despite Ferguson's preference to tie down the club's stars who have less than 24 months left on their contracts.
It has been reported that the player's image rights could be a point that could hurt the player, as his image has been tarnished in the recent past.
While his performances on the pitch during and since the World Cup 2010 have been questioned, the public rant following the game against USA followed by reports concerning his private life have only been detrimental to his reputation.
It is said that Rooney was supposed to have a meeting with United's chief executive David Gill to discuss his contract about a fortnight ago, but one is still yet to take place.
