When news first broke that United has sealed the signing of Mexican starlet Javier Hernandez it would be fair to say that most wouldn’t have known the 22 year old if he bumped into them in the Arndale Centre but now after a successful World Cup and a great pre-season with the Old Trafford side, it could well be that Ferguson has pulled off the bargain of the summer.
The quick thinking, speedy and lethal finisher could well be a player that the United boss looks to play far more frequently than he may have at first planned to. The Chivas striker had a great World Cup and had a deal not be struck before his displays brought him to the attention of the world, then his fee would surely have been doubled.
Hernandez looks and plays like someone who truly loves the game. His beaming smile and his endless desire to run all day for the cause make him a joy to watch. He simply makes things happen and puts me in mind of a Solskjaer and I can’t wait to see him in action in the English top tier.
Many suggested that his slight frame could prove a problem in the rough and tumble of the Premier League but his turn of pace should keep him out of trouble and I can see him causing defences all sorts of problems and he should help Berbatov and Rooney in terms of the goalscoring burden and indeed if we are struck by injuries he would be on hand to make his mark.
The arrival of Hernandez as well as Chris Smalling suggests an intention to build for the future. We have quite a few youngsters coming through with mixed results. Some won’t make it, others will be tested out on loan so its a blessing that our scouting system picked up on what the Guadalajara born talent was capable of.
